X240 EFS UPGRADED TORSION BARS

Postby lowey1977 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:15 pm

I have recently bought a X240 and with a front bar it is saging down, i am looking at upgrading torsion bars for supporting the height and stability has anyone used EFS torsion bars before?

hi lowey
what sort of bar do you have on? is it steel or ally?
I recently put a MCCsteel bar with a 13000 pound winch on my s2 x240 put standard height pathfinder springs in rear and wound up my stock torsion bars, had wheel alignment done last mon and all is great.
car sits level with about a 1 1/2 inch lift all round no handling issues at all.
be carefull about upgrading to aftermarket torsion bars,i bought an entire suspension pack from iron man for my pajero a few years ago,the front end gave a bone jarring ride and handling went out the door as well, ended up re installing the old bars.
my suggestion would be to get a good wheel alignment and ask them to wind stock bars and see haow you go,may save you some cash! if it's no good then go with the aftermarket bars,as for EFS i have used some of their products before(not torsion bars) and not had any problems.

Hey guys,

Think of the torsion bar as a spring....if you add extra weight you need to upgrade your spring rate.... A replacement torsion bar won't allow for increased height over what a standard torsion bar will allow in adjustment. However they generally have an increased diameter (increased spring rate) and utilises manufacturing processes that allow for a better memory so when we set the height it stays there.

We see it all the time, where a suspension upgrade is fitted to a vehicle, including upgraded torsion bars when the extra spring rate wasn't needed, therefore giving the vehicle a really harsh ride.....

Whatever you do, make sure you chat to a reputable 4x4 workshop and they should be able to offer you the best advice for your exact needs....

hi,
what model pathfinder springs did you use, I want to raise my x200 a bit, because im about to put a 55ltr fridge and a battery pack in the back, so im sure it will drop the height with the weight added, or if you have any other suggestions regarding rear springs for a x200.

regards
Mick
