Key cut/imobiliser

Postby nananancy » Fri Jun 23, 2017 3:07 pm

:     : We have lost our keys for our Great Wall. Both keys on same set!! Local key cutters could not resolve issue, so vehicle transported to GW dealership who said don't take it to a Key Cutting Service, they have the proper tools and quoted a price of approx. $350 to immobilise an 1 key. 4 Weeks down the track they have told us did not work with the 2 codes sent so need to get new immobiliser and redo the process at an extra $600-$700. Now as of today they have told us that is not working that it seems all data has been lost. The key is not reading in the system as there is nothing there. The key mechanic (supposedly the professional) whom said they can fix it, they know what their doing, they have the tools, is dumbfounded and lost for words. He has now told us he has to email GW to see if they can re programme the car to accept the new immobiliser and key. Can anyone tell me if GW in Sunshine Coast know what they are doing, was there nothing wrong with the initial problem apart from getting a replacement key, am I being taken for a ride, and does anyone know how to get my vehicle going with a new KEY??????? I'm totally lost for words and holding back the anger. 4 weeks later vehicle is still sitting in the GW factory with an apparent $1000 bill and climbing and vehicle still immobile..

A family member lost 1 and only key to v240 last week, got towed
By rac,
Rac guy removed ignition barrel & cut new key,
2 hours and had 2 new keys (non remote )
You will need your factory codes (payslip looking paper)
Its actually very simple & straight forward
Guy said only reason why it took so long is he had to do it manually
Total cost $450

Might also be an idea to try the forums search function as getting new/replacement keys and this kind of issues has been covered several times. You may find an answer to your problems has already been shared.

Thank you both for your replies, as of today, we have not heard back from the GW dealership whom still have our vehicle in their yard. We will be requesting it towed back to our home and will endeavour to find someone who will be able to get it going with new key cut. If it makes sense that we do this because it seems the professional who is quoting exhorbitant cost and still not resolve it may be the way to go. Is there any recommendations for the southeast Brisbane side who will look and give us a quote on this??? 10 weeks with no vehicle
