X200 Air Conditioner ( Freezing Up)

Postby juz264 » Wed Mar 02, 2016 8:25 am

Hi All,

I have a X200 2012 Automatic and having some issues with my Air conditioner. I can run the air con for about 20 to 30 mins then is seems like it freezes over. The fan still working it is freezing cold before it does just not pump air out. I turn it off or even switch the AC button off for 5 mins and then works again for anthor 20 mins.

Has anyone has this issue and if so how did you go about fixing this without taking it in to the shop? I am hoping its not behind the dash as the dash can be tricky!

Cheers,
Cheers Justin

With your car stationary and air con running, do you hear the AC compressor (in the engine bay) cutting in and out as it should be. Normally as the compressor cuts in your idle speed will increase too. It sounds as though it could be that your compressor is running full time and the evaporator unit which is under the dash is freezing up.

Yes , I know it's freezing up. It's a sensor apparently that needs to be reset the Great Wall dealer said. Should be fixed in no time.
Hoping so let you know so no replacement of the compressor. Cheer for your reply

hi
have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so to see if that helps,
i'm pretty sure my x200 had to have a thermistor replaced to fix this problem, also a freeze up of the evaporator in the car can be caused by reduced air flow
drawing across the evaporator - fan not spining fast enough

Thanks Jim the Dragon , yes looked at all these.
Next Step maybe replacement thermister.

May I ask the cost ? Where did you go for this?
Would love to know how I could access it I have had the dash off but cant locate, must be blind!
